Nathan Shelton (AEA, SAG/AFTRA Eligible) returned to his hometown of Springfield, MO as Co-Artistic Director for Springfield Contemporary Theatre in May 2017. He had been working as a professional actor, writer, and designer in Chicago, IL since 2013. With over 25 years as a performer, Nathan is very excited to continue working in the areas of theatre, film, and television while helping to lead SCT into their 23rd season. Nathan is an accomplished stage and screen actor and is currently represented in the Kansas City Market by Voices & Talent Agency and in the St. Louis/Chicago market by TalentPlus- St. Louis.
As a stage & screen writer, Nathan has been honored numerous times including winning the Critic's Choice Award at the prestigious NYC Samuel French Short Play Festival in 2005 for his one act play, Tinker Toys. One of his feature screenplays, Unspeakable, won critical acclaim as a finalist in the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, the Wildsound Film Festival, and the London International Independent Film Festival in 2008. Nathan's internationally award-winning web series, SHADOW BOUND, is currently undergoing transition to a feature length film which will hit the international festival circuit in late 2017. Nathan is very excited to be working on several other upcoming projects with his company, ARCANE, which will bear fruit later this year as well.
Aside from acting and writing, Nathan is an award-winning director/producer of numerous stage and screen productions, including Dracula at the Vandivort Center Theatre (labeled one of the “Best Things to Happen in Springfield” in 2008 by GO Magazine.) In 2012, Nathan adapted and directed George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead as a horror/comedy and produced the live show as one of the final productions to be staged in the historic Vandivort Center Theatre with Springfield Contemporary Theatre. Nathan served as Co-Producer for the feature film, The Town in the Middle of Nowhere with Director/Writer, James Kerr, and fellow Producer, Shannon Michelle in the fall of 2016. The film is in post-production and will hit the festival circuit, seeking distribution later this year.
For over 20 years Nathan has worked regularly on stage, television, and film projects as a special effect makeup designer, and in 2010, he was honored as one of 417 Magazine’s “Top 20 under 30 People in Springfield” for his work as special effects prosthetic designer for the internationally acclaimed and Academy Award Nominated indie film, WINTER’S BONE. In 2013 Nathan won "BEST MAKEUP EFFECTS" at LA WEBFEST, and was nominated for an IAWTV AWARD for "BEST MAKEUP DESIGN" for the EMMY Award-Winning, EPILOGUE WEB SERIES. Nathan's fx work was again recognized for the silent-horror web series, SHADOW BOUND (nominated for Best Special Effects at Miami Web Fest in 2014). Most recently he served as Special Effects Makeup Designer/ SFX Supervisor for the feature films Everything and The Weight in 2015 as well as The Town in the Middle of Nowhere (all slated for a 2017/2018 release).
