The Frightmare Theatre Podcast

The Frightmare Theatre Podcast is an internationally-acclaimed horror anthology audio drama series from Arcane Productions. In each episode, listeners are invited to join host, Doctor Necropolis, and the rest of the Frightmare Theatre team as they introduce a variety of suspenseful fully-produced audio dramas that are sure to send shivers (or giggles) down your spine! 

SHADOW BOUND

SHADOW BOUND is a black & white silent horror film inspired by the collected works of “the grandfather of modern horror” H. P. Lovecraft.  The film version of this story is collected and re-edited from the 5 original episodes which comprised the internationally award-winning web series.

MEAD

Producer/SFX Makeup Designer/ Performer

Nathan was honored to join his friend, J. Allen Williams as a Producer on Williams' film, MEAD.  J. Allen Williams spent over 5 years bringing the unique Sci-Fi film to life.  MEAD stars genre favorite, Robert Picardo, as well as the voice talent of Patton Oswalt & Patrick Warburton.  The film is unique in that it has live actors performing within a completely CGI world and was based on the cult comic, Fever Dreams, By Jan Strnad and illustrated by the late Richard Corben.   The film premiered in 2022 at Cannes and is available NOW on streaming platforms or BLURAY.

YELLOW is an award-winning Sci-Fi short film from director, Ryan Piotrowski, and writer, Nathan Shelton.  A girl named Yellow spends 30 years trapped in an underground bunker with only VHS tapes of her Father to keep her company.

Nick Dear's Frankenstein

In October 2018, Nathan directed a wildly well-received stage adaptation of Mary Shelly's classic novel.  This adaptation from writer, Nick Dear, was first produced by The National Theater in London and starred Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller.  Natha's production was a regional premiere, presented with special permission from the author.   Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development, and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling new adaptation of the gothic tale.

The Elephant Man

In July of 2018, Nathan directed an innovative 3/4 staging of Bernard Pomerance's Tony Award-Winning play, THE ELEPHANT MAN for Springfield Contemporary Theatre's Center Stage.  This new staging utilized an original musical score from composer, Chris Porcelli, and the use of a revolving stage.  

The Rocky Horror Show

Nathan has been honored to have directed the hit live stage show, The Rocky Horror Show by Richard O'Brien, not once, but twice!  His first staging was in the historic proscenium theatrical space, The Vandivort Center Theatre.  His second staging was a 3/4 staging, utilizing multimedia in a very intimate setting of SCT's Center Stage.  Both productions played to sold-out audiences for 4 consecutive weeks.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

- Undead on Stage -

In October 2012, Nathan adapted the classic cult film by George Romero into a comedy "play within a play" stage show.  The production featured multimedia video and audience participation and was wildly popular, playing to sold-out crowds for the entirety of its 4-week run.   This staging of the original bleak source material is vastly different from other more faithful adaptations and led to the creation of The Frightmare Theatre Podcast many years later.  

DRACULA

Nathan has been honored to have directed stage adaptations of Bram Stoker's DRACULA on two separate occasions. (2005 & 2008)   On both occasions, Nathan was excited to bring the visceral and cenematic adaptation by playwright, Steven Dietz to life on the historic Vandivort Center Theatre stage.  This production marked the formation of Nathan's first production company and his first professional stage directing opportunity.  The original production in 2005 added an extra week to the run, due to ticket sales far exceeding expectations.  His second staging was voted as "One of the best things in Springfield" by 417 Magazine in 2008 and helped earn him the recognition that year as one of "Springfield's Top 20 Under 30" as well as Q102 FM's "People Who Rock" award.

BUG

In January of 2009, Nathan directed Tracy Lett's hit stage play, BUG at the historic Vandivort Center Theatre. The production was so intense that some audience members had to leave during the show due to the realistic disturbing content.

EVIL DEAD: The Musical

In October 2009, Nathan directed was honored to be one of the first regional theatre directors of the newly licensed stage show, Evil Dead: The Musical at the historic Vandivort Center Theatre. The show was produced by Springfield Contemporary Theatre and was designed and directed by Nathan and his production team at Arcane. The show played for four weeks to sold-out audiences.

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Acting / SFX Makeup / Directing / Screenwriting

Nathan has been teaching private lessons and workshops for almost 20 years in the areas of Intermediate/Advanced Acting and SFX Makeup Design.  In 2018 he started teaching classes regularly in Directing and Screenwriting with SLT's prestigious theatre & film educational program.  After returning to Chicago in 2019, Nathan has continued to work as a script doctor and acting coach.  For more information and bookings, please click the button below.
